Importance of Assertiveness

Assertiveness means standing up for your personal rights in a direct, honest and appropriate way. Those who behave assertively always respect the thoughts, feelings and beliefs of other people as well as their own. Assertiveness is the balance point between passive and aggressive behaviour. Some people may struggle to behave assertively for a number of reasons, and find that they behave either aggressively or passively instead.

Being passive results in failure to communicate thoughts or feelings and results in people doing things they really do not want to do in the hope that they might please others. This also means that they allow others to take responsibility, to lead and make decisions for them.

Benefits of Learning to be Assertive

Behaving assertively can help you:

  • Gain self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Understand and recognize your feelings
  • Earn respect from others
  • Improve communication
  • Create win-win situations
  • Improve your decision-making skills
  • Create honest relationships
  • Gain more job satisfaction
  • Stress management especially if you tend to over-commit and have a hard time saying 'no'.
  • Learning to be more assertive can also help you effectively express your feelings when communicating with others about issues.

About The Course

“How to Be Assertive in Any Situation” is a course different to most courses on the market, in that it not only gives an understanding of assertiveness, the benefits of assertiveness, and the differences between aggressiveness, passiveness and assertiveness, but it also gives participants a thorough understanding of the common barriers preventing people from asserting themselves, and why people resort to aggression. It also teaches how to use one simple, effective technique of being assertive that can be applied to any situation and with anyone. A lot of courses on the market teach a specific technique to apply to specific situations, which can be very difficult to remember. This course also provides many examples of how to apply this assertiveness formula (created by Corinne Coe) to the most commonly experienced situations in both your personal life with your children, partner, family and friends; and in your professional life with your employer/supervisor, customers, staff, and co-workers. The course also provides useful activities, and the option of learning either by watching the videos or reading the content for each module. It is a course that is enriched with useful information aimed at developing advanced assertiveness skills.

About Corinne Coe

Corinne Coe is a psychologist, author, public speaker and blogger. She has worked as a private practicing psychologist in Cleveland, Australia for almost 20 years, and continues to treat people for mental illness today. Her extensive knowledge on mental health and well-being, relationships, and parenting comes from 20 years of private practicing experience. She has recently published her book, 'Heal Your Mind Heal Your Life" which is successfully selling in bookstores in Australia, UK, and USA. She also has a blog www.corinnecoe.com where she shares advice, tips and skills on mental health and wellbeing, parenting, relationships and personal development. Having achieved a high success rate with her clients, and wanting to help more people than she was able to through her practice, inspired her to create her personal development courses. Over the 20 years Corinne noticed a correlation between mental health and the development of essential ‘life skills’ such as, a healthy self-esteem and confidence, proactive problem-solving skills, effective communication skills, and in particular, strong assertiveness skills. This inspired her to create her first course, “How to be Assertive in Any Situation”, and first education video, "Heal Your Anxiety". Corinne is currently working on her next program, “Heal Your Mind - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder" which will be launched in late 2021.
